  The academic staff union of universities ASUU will on Sunday meet in order to decide whether to call Off the ongoing Strike or to continue with the industrial action. Source among the union's National  Executive Council (NEC) members told  journalist on Monday that the meeting will  hold at the Union's national headquarters at  the university of Abuja. It was gathered that the council will take a  decision on the industrial action based on  reports from the various state Congresses. "The NEC meeting will hold on August 28.  The four weeks ultimatum that we give is  expiring that same day. We will be making  our discussion based on the results of the  state Congresses. "The NEC has to defend on the results of the  Congresses. The Zones have held their own  Congresses; the branch chairman will also  talk to their members and they will get  feedback which will be transmitted to the  NEC," one of the sources said.   The National Agency For Food And Drug Administration And Control (NAFDAC) has commenced a nation wide crackdown of all illegal manufacturers and distributors of an intoxicant called Kuskura , herbal aphrodisiacs, alcoholic bitters and other preparations. The firm, which started operation in November,2021, said it had on board over 60,000 Students and had processed over N5m worth of loans for students who could not pay their tuition fees. Briefing newsmen in Abuja, Mr Ebuka Nwakoro, Team lead, Technology Implementation at presspayNg, said they were able to leverage funding from FCMB and some private donors to provide the student loans at a single-digit interest rate, adding that for students to access the loans , they must have also saved up to 50% of the tuition for the firm to pay the balance. He said only student who were serious about their academic, maintained an account on the App and met the know your customer (KYC) criteria could get the funding support.   Isah Barde, a 17 years old secondary school graduate in kano State, has Built a 'Robot' from scraps, using cartons, pipes, led, motor, aluminium, among others, as components. Isah intends to study robotics and become an  artificial intelligence expert, despite the  financial barrier that stand in his way. It has been three years since the teenage boy  started invented the robot, which he  described as a part of his life aspirations,  inspite of limited support. He control the robot by moving his hand.   A senior staff of the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVIR), Vom, Plateau State, Muhammad Nasiru, has been ordered by a State high Court sitting in Jos to refund the salaries he received for 11 years as head of administration on appointment. He was also sentenced to six months  imprisonment for False declaration of document  and  failure to give accurate documents in  seeking employment with NVIR. The independent corrupt practices and other  related offences commission (ICPC) had  arraigned him before the court on a two-count charge. ICPC held that Nasiru was not qualified for  the employment base on the fact that he was  compulsorily retired from service by the  National Judicial Institute (NJI), Abuja, in  2003. Justice Christy Dabup, however, gave him an  option of N150,000 fine in lieu of the jail  term.
